Several of the shots I worked on.
Some breakdowns of 2 of my shots
I worked with the 2D animation team to set up layered EXRs in ToonBoom that provided body-part masks and lighting passes. This enabled comp templates that gave us a big head start on each shot.
This project was an absolute blast to work on. Collaborating closely with the 2D animation team, we exported layered EXRs with passes such as light, shadow, and character masks, allowing us to composite the shots using a workflow similar to our 3D pipeline. We then developed character-specific comp templates using these passes, which gave us a strong starting point for each shot.
Compositing the large number of 2D FX passes required a lot of iteration and careful balancing to dial in the glows, colors, and blurs —something that turned out to be much more challenging than it looks at first.
